Three layouts that work

The drawings are to scale. The sizes shown are the outer sizes of the frames – the space they take up on the wall.

Frequently asked questions

How much space should I leave between frames?

Usually 5–8 cm. A smaller gap ties the posters into one picture, a larger one breaks it into separate pieces. What matters most is that the gap is the same across the whole gallery.

How do I plan the layout before drilling?

Cut paper rectangles to the outer size of the frames and stick them to the wall with masking tape. Move them around until the arrangement looks right and check it from a few metres away. Mark the hanging point on each template – you can drive the nail straight through the paper.

Can I mix frame colours?

Yes, but the safest choice is one frame colour for the whole gallery. If you want to mix, stay within one tone – for example oak with gold aluminium, or black with white. Consistent sizes help too: two to four formats work best.
